SUSIE FERGUSON HEMBREE

Susie Ferguson Hembree, 94, of Murphy died Sunday, October 3, 2004, in Murphy Medical Center surrounded by friends and family. She was the daughter of the late William E. Ferguson and Sally McGuire Ferguson, and was the last survivor of 13 children. She was the wife of the late Noah W. Hembree, a local businessman, farmer, and surveyor, who preceded her in death in 1984. With the exception of a few years working as a secretary for an insurance company in Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Hembree spent her entire life in Murphy and on a family farm in the Peachtee Community that had been in her family for well over a century. She was a lifelong member of the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church and kept the nursery there for decades. She was a gentle, loving mother and she loved her family, her garden, her flowers, and handicrafts.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Hayden, Harry, Herman, Homer, Frank, Max, and Paul (who died in infancy); and five sisters, Minnie Ferguson, Mamie Parrish, Pauline Sudderth, Myrtle Roberts, and Elizabeth Stone.
Surviving are her daughter, Phyllis Hembree of the family home; two sons, George Anthony Hembree and wife, Vanessa of Centerville, OH and Stephen C. Hembree and wife, Jane of Murphy; five grandchildren, Stephanie Wright and her husband, Ken, Ryan, Kyle, Stephen, and Sean Hembree and his wife, Barbara.
Funeral services at 7:00 PM Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Graveside services for family and close friends at 11:00 AM Thursday, Oct. 7, followed by a luncheon at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, 481 Upper Peachtree Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
