VIOLET DECKER

Violet Decker, 92, of Murphy passed away Tuesday (Oct. 19, 2004) at her residence. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Jerry and Lucy Bryson Jenkins and the wife of the late Luther Decker, who died Aug. 3, 1987. She was a homemaker and loved to sew and quilt. Violet was a member of the Tomotla Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and loved all children.

Surviving are a daughter, Meredith Palmer of Murphy; two sons, Pastor J.D. Decker and wife, Ann of Murphy and M.G. Decker and wife, Nancy of Sylva; a brother, Tom Jenkins of Akron, OH; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services at 7:00 PM Thursday (Oct. 21) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Interment at 10:00 AM Friday (Oct. 22) in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Grandsons as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County, PO Box 1151, Murphy, NC 28906 or Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
