WILBUR G. HOWARD

Wilbur G. Howard, 79, of Hayesville died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at his residence. A native of Edgecombe County, NC, he had been living in Clay County for the past 25 years. He was the son of the late William Henry and Addie Carson Howard. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University receiving a Master's Degree in Animal Husbandry. He retired after 30 years as a regional supervisor with Farmers Home Administration. He was a member of the Woodman's of the World for 50 years and was a member of the Wingate Masonic Lodge No. 2001 and he was a 32 nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the local stock investment club. Wilbur was a member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church, where he had served as trustee, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the church school program, and served on many committees, and was a Lay Leader. He was active as a certified Lay Speaker and supervised the Jack Rabbit Campground Summer Church Program. He served several terms as delegate to the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church at Lake Junaluska, NC.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Thelma Woodlief Howard; two sons, Ernie Howard of Woodstock, GA and Robert Howard of Acworth, GA; and two grandsons, Gordon and Andrew Howard both of Woodstock, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services at 7:00 Sunday evening (Oct. 3) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Jackie Sellers, Dr. John Hooker and Carl Moore officiating. Graveside services at 2:00 Monday afternoon (Oct. 4) in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC with Rev. Lenny Rogers officiating. Pallbearers: Doug and Danny High, Mickey and Harry Carroll, and Wallace and Gilbert Woodlief. Members of the Hayesville Masonic Lodge as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 Sunday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice Agency, P.O. Box 465, Hayesville, NC 28904 or to the Hayesville First United Methodist Church Landscaping Fund, P. O. Box 85, Hayesville, NC 28904.
