EDITH LOUISE WILSON CABE

Edith Louise Wilson Cabe, 89, of Hayesville died Saturday (October 20, 2007) in a Georgia hospital. She was a native of Almond, NC, but had lived most of her life in Clay County. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Joseph H. and Sarah Welch Wilson and the wife of the late Neal J. Cabe who died April 11, 2007. She graduated from Swain County High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina College (now known as Western Carolina University). She was a teacher for four years in Swain County and 33 years in Clay County, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church and had previously served in the following:  Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, a leader in the W.M.U. organization, training union director, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #11, Hayesville Chapter, and a member of the Retired teacher’s association.
 
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Marlowe, Grace Ayers, Ethel Cole, and Hattie Franklin;  and three brothers, Gov Wilson, Jack Wilson, and Clyde Wilson.
 
Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Poston and her husband, Larry of Canton, NC, and Betty McKinney and her husband, Carroll of Hiawassee, GA;  a sister, Kathryn Bell of Hayesville;  four grandchildren, Kembra McKinney, Anisa Roberts, Brooke Beasley, and Joel Poston, and six great grandchildren Walker Beasley, Eli Roberts, Cabe Poston, Lila Roberts, Josie Poston, and Tate Roberts.
 
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday (Oct. 23) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Denny Moss officiating. Interment in the Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers:  Larry Poston, Carroll McKinney, Joel Poston, Jason Roberts, Ronnie Smith, and Bill O’Neil. David Bell, Buddy Vaught, and Tommy Mayfield will serve as honorary pallbearers.
 
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 Tuesday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
 
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made in loving memory of Edith Louise Wilson Cabe to the Class of the 1961 Scholarship Fund, c/o Hayesville High School, 205 Yellow Jacket Dr., Hayesville, NC 28904.
