VERNA JUNE RABES MOORE
Verna June Rabes Moore, 82, of Republic, MO, formerly of Clay County, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2007) in Springfield, MO. She was born near Omaha, NE and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Alma Rabes and the wife of the late Arthur Moore, who died Jan. 17, 1978.
Verna received her training as a registered nurse from Methodist College of Nursing in Omaha. As a young nurse during World War II, she met Arthur Moore, a member of the Army Air Force. At the end of the war, Verna and Arthur married and began their life together in the Tusquittee Valley section of Clay County, where they raised four children. Along with her husband, Verna was a very active member of the community. Nowhere was this more evident than in her devotion to the First United Methodist Church of Hayesville. She ran the nursery on Sunday mornings, conducted Bible School classes, and hosted prayer meetings in her home.
Eventually, Verna, Arthur, and the family moved to western Colorado where they resided for several years before moving to southwestern Missouri. Although Verna had not worked while raising her family, she returned to the nursing profession in Colorado and achieved a very distinguished career that spanned 60 years. She worked in Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri and was appointed Director of Nursing in several hospitals and nursing homes.
Verna attended the Methodist Church in Republic, MO.
