WAYNE LONG
Wayne Long, 92, of Hayesville died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2007) in an Asheville hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was the son of the late Jim and Maud Davis Long and the husband of the late Mary Jane Rowland Long, who died March 28, 1993. In his younger years, he worked for the CCC Camps, constructing several dams including Fontana Dam, Chatuge Dam, and Santeetlah Dam. Wayne was a retired farmer and had been a school bus driver for the Clay County School System for several years. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Carl W. Long; a brother, Arvil Long of Hayesville; three grandsons, David, Dwayne, and Dwight Long all of Hayesville; and five great grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Emily, Cameron, and Benjamin Long.
Funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday (Oct. 28) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Clark Moss officiating. Interment in Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers: Garland and Kenneth Rowland, Cecil Brown, Jeff Long, Jeff Garrett, and Dan Chastain.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
