Ivie Funeral Home MINNIE BARTON RHODES

Minnie Barton Rhodes, 96, of Murphy died Monday (Sept. 15) in a Murphy care facility. A native of Graham County, she had lived in Cherokee County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Ellen Parton Walker and the wife of the late Gay Z. Barton, who died Feb. 3, 1970 and Robert Rhodes, who died May 19, 1985. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Tomotla Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by three children, Bob Barton, George William Barton, and Christine Smith.

Surviving are a daughter, Lucy Christopher of Henderson, KY; a son, Jimmy Barton and wife, Cheryl of Murphy; and 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren.

Funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday (Sept. 18, 2003) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial in Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Denny Smith, Sherdan Walker, Shaun Conley, Shane Crawford, Michael Stalcup, and Bobby Barton.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made to the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, c/o Jim Hendrix, 3195 Old Peachtree Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
