HERMAN HICKEY

Herman Hickey, 82, of Murphy died Thursday (September 8, 2005) in a Murphy medical center. A native of McMinn County, TN, he had lived in Cherokee County for all of his life. He was the son of the late G.O. and Martha Powell Hickey and was the husband of the late Lorena Allen Hickey, who died June 16, 1973. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army with the 35 th Infantry Division in the European Theatre. He retired after 21 years as a woodworker with Baker Manufacturing. Herman enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three sons, Carl Hickey and wife, Cammie of Murphy, Delbert Hickey and wife, Anna of Farner, TN, and Richard Hickey and wife, Nancy of Murphy; a special former daughter-in-law and caregiver, Helen Hickey; two sisters, Ivadell Farner and Eleanor Hemming both of Tennessee; two brothers, G.O. Hickey Jr. and Odean Hickey both of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, Michael Hickey, Teresa Rogers, Mark Hickey, Amanda Hickey, Amber Hickey, Lorena Hickey, Samantha Hickey, Carolyn White, Billy White, Richard White, and Wayne White; three great grandchildren, Jeremy and Jacob Rogers, and Jolee Hickey; and several step-sisters and step-brothers.

Funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday (September 11) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. Burial in the Hickey Family Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tom Taylor, Russell Allen, David Stiles, Jack McDonald, Mark Hickey, and Michael Hickey. Honorary pallbearers: James Truett, Johnny Nichols, and Gordon Farmer.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Herman Hickey to the American Red Cross, Hurricane Katrina Relief, PO Box 37243, Washington DC 20013.
