HARRY STARBIRD RALEIGH

Harry Starbird Raleigh, 90, of Hayesville died Monday (September 12, 2005) at his residence. A native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, he had been living in Clay County for the past five years. He was the son of the late Alonzo and Emma Starbird Raleigh. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Coast Guard in the Pacific Theatre. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired after 31 years as a commander. He later worked as a retail mall manager in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Janet Perrault Raleigh; two daughters, Elizabeth Yuknus and husband, Frank J. of Parkland, FL and Michelle Hayes and husband, Samuel of Greensboro, NC; a son, Harry Starbird Raleigh Jr. and wife, Patricia of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL; a sister, Gloria Layman of York, ME; and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial services at 11:00 AM Friday (September 16) in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father George Kloster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Carolina Regional Office, 9844-C Southern Pines Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28273.
