REV. FRANK THOMAS BLOUNT

Rev. Frank Thomas Blount, 66, of Murphy died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at a Murphy medical center. He was a native of Cherokee County where he had lived most of his life.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Annie Ruby Blount. He attended Voorhees College in Demark, SC, Clark University in Atlanta, GA, Shaw University in Raleigh, NC, and Truett Seminary Extension in Murphy. At age 12, Frank began his Christian discipleship by being a lay reader for the Episcopal Church. He was an ordained deacon at the Mount Zion Baptist Church. He had pastored Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Waynesville for 16 years and was presently pastoring New Bethel Baptist Church in Franklin for the past three years. He had served as moderator for the Waynesville Missionary Baptist Association for six years. He retired after 30 years as a master tool and die maker with Clifton Precision. Frank was an avid fisherman, painter, and cook.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Brenda Wilson Blount; a daughter, Lakisha Blount of Murphy; a son, Frank Christopher Blount and wife, Daphne of Marble; three sisters, Cynthia Clavon and husband, Charles of Lithonia, GA, Thelena Turner and husband, Euriel of Stafford, VA, and Denise Blount of Murphy; two brothers, Rubin Spencer Blount of Murphy and Edward Victor Blount and wife, Deborah of Stone Mountain, GA; and two grandchildren, Taryn Alysse and Christopher Alexander Blount.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Fredrick Gordon and Rev. J.P. Webb officiating. Interment was in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bryan Jackson, Nicholas Blount, Jamar Johnson, Denny Ryals, Christian White, and Roscoe Bowman III.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Rev. Frank Thomas Blount to the Waynesville Missionary Baptist Association, c/o Boyd Hall, 32 Cedar Street, Canton, NC 28716.
