VETA  LEDFORD


 

Veta Ledford, 80, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Hayesville, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 in a Chattanooga hospital.  A native of Haverhill, MA, she had lived in Bradley County, TN for several years but had lived in Hayesville most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Beatrice Viola Spurr Doyle and the wife of the late Charles Clifton Ledford, who died Jan. 15, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Hubert “Smokey” Ledford. She retired in 1991 after 25 years with McKee Baking Company.  Veta was a member of the Hayesville Church of God.
 
Surviving are a son, Charles William “Bill” Ledford and wife, Loraine of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter-in-law, Laura Ford and husband, Rhea of Hixson, TN; two sisters, Ann Clampitt and Muriel Blankenship both of Hayesville; a brother, Maurice Doyle of Sparks, NV; five grandchildren, Melissa Ledford of Hixson, Karen Ledford of Denver, CO, Brandi Denise Walters and Jared Scott Ledford both of Colorado Springs, and Jeannie Hoarau of League City, TX; and seven great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 26 in the Hayesville Church of God with the Rev. Mitchell Totherow officiating. Interment was in Ledfords Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Rhea Ford, Jared Ledford, Glenn Herreid, Charlie and Howard Blankenship, and Randy Canup.
 
The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Veta Ledford to the Hayesville Church of God, 72 Fort Hembree Road, Hayesville, NC 28904 or the Ooltewah Church of God, 9320 Lee Highway, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
